Abstrak

This research aims to investigate the implementations of the BRCS – PMI program towards single parents in post-tsunami in Aceh Jaya district. The conceptual framework for this study included the independent variables of single parent’s earnings, single parent’s level of education, and dependents variables of the impact of the program (children education, working capital, re-married ceremony, and other purposes). This study also applied dummy variables (villages nearby shore and villages that live close to valley). The data were obtained from questionnaire and collected from 16 villages in Teunom sub-district, which was one of the affected areas struck by the 2004 tsunami and one of the program areas. A total of 330 single parents household were employed as respondents. The findings reveal that the majority of respondents (86, 67%) spent the funds for children education, followed by 6,67% using it for working capital and remarried utility accounted for 5,46%. Meanwhile, only a slightly of them utilized it for other purposes such as consumptive expenditure (1,2%). It is recommended that the local government should continue the program for helping single parents. Also, it is suggested that a study should be conducted in the urban area of the program.
