Abstrak

As the result of scholarly intellectual journey to understand separatismin Aceh and numerous policy research activities to resolve it, currently there is a vast literature body that focuses on Aceh conflict sinceit started in 1976. If the collected works are laid in a continuum line, the texts extend from those which focus on conflict onset to a collection that concentrate on conflict termination and post-conflict. In the middle, there is a group of scholars whose concern are on the duration and the dynamic of conflict. This paper attempts to map out the research progresses on Aceh conflict and argues that inquiries on this issue should continue despite the fact thatpeace has been achieved in 2005. Besides valuablein enhancing our understanding and formulating policies or actions to resolve conflict, researches on conflict also offer opportunities to acquire knowledge and wisdom from the past in order to prevent conflict recurring in the future. In line with this argument; it is proposed then research onAceh conflict should be maintainedand developed, especially onagendasthat has notbeen explored, as outlined inthispaper.
